POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director for Academic Services, the Director of Library Services facilitates a vision and strategic direction for the TKU Library while leading library services in a unified plan of action in support of the University mission. This position is responsible for the efficient management and direction of the library, including the development of partnerships, programs, services, budget, supervision of library staff, compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements, and assessment.

Position Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for all functions of the library in collaboration with other academic units, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversee the acquisition, evaluation, selection, and weeding of digital and print library materials to ensure the library collection maintains sufficient resources to meet the needs of all TKU’s academic programs, both online and on-ground.
  • Conduct and report on the analysis of collections, usage, services and other assessment data that evaluate the impact and effectiveness of library services and resources.
  • Establish a process of ongoing and continuous improvement of library programs, resources and services based on assessment data.
  • Manage the integrated library system in collaboration with the IT department to ensure students can access library resources.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of library policies.
  • Provide online and on-ground research assistance to students, faculty, and staff and information literacy programming for the student body to strengthen the research skills of the TKU community.
  • Manage the budget to ensure effective use of fiscal resources.
  • Create an active learning environment that encourages faculty and students to utilize the library as a Learning Community.
  • Chair the library committee and serve on other committees as needed to accomplish library and university initiatives.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by governing entities (DOE, TRACS, ABHE, etc.); file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide direct oversight to library employees and student workers.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
  • Master of library science (MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited school, required.

Experience:
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a librarian.
  • Experience managing digital information resources.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years managerial experience.
